Amazing Read - Disappear Into Another World

I just finished reading The Baba Yaga's Daughter by C.E. Murphy... it was divine. I felt like I was in an old library, hidden in a corner with a small lamp, devouring a leather-bound book I found inconspicuously mixed in with the fiction when it should have been shelved with `fact'. Like it was handwritten in script with ink and quill and the owner of the library either had no idea what they possessed or were clever enough to shelve it where it would be hidden in plain sight. The language was lush, the stories interwoven intricately enough to stand on their own but with small hints to broaden the back-story of the others. I highly recommend this book... either to ready fans who follow her work or as an excellent introduction to the quality of her writing and stories.

Off-beat and unusual.

I've read a lot of SF and Fantasy over the years, and this was some original and innovative material, I am pleased to report.

Vampires herein are not the current faddish sort, nor even Lugosi-ish, and the reader was required to think a bit.

All in all, I was quite happy with this find

Audio review of Baba Yaga's Daughter and Other Stories of the Old Races

This is an enchanted tale that has been skilfully brought to life by Anna’s colourful narration. The plot is not straight forward at all but several stories spun together in a delightful mix.
Many parts to the story stretch over different continents and many generations. In it Murphy writes of truths, half-truths, folklore and legions.
I liked how she wrote the female characters with strong leads and they were both brave and fearful. Not meek or in any way subservient, which is often the case in some old fashioned tales.
The two main male characters, the dragonlord Janx and the dashing vampire Eliseo Daisani are both powerful in their own rights and make an uneasy friendship. However both of them are never without a woman in their lives to complete or complicate them.
Being a child still at heart, I loved the witches best, Baba Yaga, and her chicken leg hut that could not cross running water and the daughter who had no name. Anna gave Russian inflections to their lines as she read them, and made them seam formidable pair, I certainly would not like to meet Baba Yaga in the dark.

Anna wide range of voices forced me to stop listening at one point and to check there was indeed only one narrator. How she jumped from a Russian voice to an American in the same paragraph was mesmerising.
Along with vampires, there is an interesting an skilfully written female vampire hunter. I felt a bit like I was exploring a secret world. I was transfixed by the dragons who could take on the form of humans alongside tales of gargoyles and silkies.
Not only were all the magical creatures in this story beautifully written, but also humans characters, who’s lives became intertwined with the old races intriguing and fairy like way.
There were interesting settings, old fashioned speakeasy’s to modern day settings.
This is an enchanted tale, but I am glad I listened to it rather than reading it as its dripped though with long and tasty descriptions, and having them read out to you gives you more of a chance to absorb and admire them.
This is the first time I have come across Murphy’s writing and I would really look forward to reading/listening to some more of her fantastic written work.
A magical listen, Anna has a skilful reading of the wonderful characters was both relaxing and hugely enjoyable. I am looking forward to listening to other Audiobook’s that Anna has narrated. Especially looking forward to her upcoming reading of the Audiobook, ‘Garden.’

Half way decent Min book

I will be short and to the point. I just took mineralogy this fall, and this book was pretty good. It's not a sit down and read type of textbook, however. It comes in handy during optical mineralogy with microscopes, and for learning terms. The information for each mineral is well documented with optical, chemical, physical, symmetry, and locations where they're found. One thing I would have liked was color pictures and even thin section images, but there are other books for that. Overall, it's very helpful for anyone he needs a good guide or is just starting in mineralogy.

About the Author
Mario Reading was born in Dorset, and brought up in England, Germany, and the South of France. He studied Comparative Literature at the University of East Anglia, where he specialized in French and German literature and translation. He speaks four languages. During a nomadic youth he sold rare books, taught riding in Africa, studied dressage in Vienna, played polo in India, Spain and Dubai, ran a 70 horse polo stables in Gloucestershire, and helped manage his Mexican wife's coffee plantation.

I have to disagree with the other two reviews. This book is right on the spot and I was getting chills just reading it especially about the Anti Christ and the great famine during his rule. Granted that the events aren't going to happen for another 47 years, still this book changed my life. I read another book a long time ago about the state of the world at the end of time and this new book by Mario Reading matches what happens in that booklet ("Ray of Light") I read which no one could have known about unless you read this booklet and since Orthodox Christianity is a very low key religion and not that much into your face trying to convert you and a rather small percentage of the world's Christian believers are Orthodox Christian... All I can say is no one else knew that there would be a worldwide famine during the time of the Anti Christ except the Orthodox Christian church fathers and now Nostradamus as well. Another book I highly recommend is Hildegard of Bingen's "Scivias for the visions and imagery in that book. Worth the wait, Nostradamus predictions for this century and the end of mankind is a very thought provoking read

If you have been following the Nostradamus TV documentaries for the last 8 years then you have probably wondered when these future events were shown to occur. This is the first book that delivers an answer to this question. Strange that the other authors were mentally unable to find the diligence to pursue this very important and blindingly obvious question.

The additional detail on the immediate importance of events in this century is also quite satisfying.

I can say the book was lackluster and I wouldn't recommend it.

The books didn't give any reasoning behind why the author connected the specific events. One quatrain was assigned to the flooding of New Orleans yet there was nothing in the passage that pointed towards it at all. To me I believe the author would do well to give more information on the reason he choose to link these events. If he is an expert on Nostradamus he should be able to explain it to me clearly. For now, I can say the book was lackluster and I wouldn't recommend it.

I love this book! Benjamin Aaron details his journey into wholesaling soap to stores like Whole Foods, HyVee and other major retail chains. This book goes over EVERYTHING that you need to do to be ready for wholesaling your product.
